Cape Town, often called the “Mother City,” is South Africa’s oldest city and one of the most beautiful in the world. Nestled between Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean, it offers a mix of natural wonders, world-class beaches, fine dining, and rich cultural history. Visitors can explore the Cape Winelands, take a cable car up Table Mountain, tour Robben Island, or drive the scenic Cape Peninsula route to Cape Point. A self-drive holiday in Cape Town allows for flexibility, from city attractions to wine estates and coastal escapes.
As Cape Town is part of South Africa, visitors must comply with South African entry regulations. A valid passport with at least 2 blank pages and valid for 30 days beyond departure is required. Some nationalities may need a visa; check before travel.
The currency is the South African Rand (ZAR).
Credit and debit cards are widely accepted. ATMs are readily available in the city and surrounding areas.
Value Added Tax (VAT) is 15%. Tourists can claim VAT refunds at the airport on goods purchased in South Africa and taken out upon departure.
Summer (Nov–Feb) – Light summer clothes, swimwear, and sun protection; pack a windbreaker for coastal breezes.

Cape Town is malaria-free.
The city has excellent private and public hospitals with high standards of medical care.
